PianoFiles.com is a free website for piano players who like to enlarge their sheet music collection. Over 500.000 piano players world wide are registered on PianoFiles and submitted more than one million sheet music titles.

Getting started:
Search or browse for the sheet you want and find out which pianofiles member owns the sheet. Go to his or her members profile page and find out how you can contact this member. Most members have enabled their contact form, which you can use to send them an email.

The easiest way to obtain the sheet you want is to offer a trade. By submitting your own sheet collection into PianoFiles, other members will start contacting you and offer a trade. This way, you will enlarge your collection very quickly and without searching the net. In fact, the sheets will come to you!

As a member, i.e. a registered user, you can contact other members and start trading your sheet collection. In order to show them what you have, you can submit your sheet collection and also the request sheets you couldn't find in the PianoFiles database.

Share your sheet collection

  • Submit a sheet: There are 2 ways to submit the sheet music you have: (i) by searching or browsing for the sheet title and clicking on the + sign to the right or (ii) directly. You can't upload the actual file to PianoFiles, just the sheet title and some other information about it.
  • Request a sheet: You can add requests on your profile page for sheet music you didn't find on PianoFiles. This way other users will see what you are looking for and if you are lucky, they might send you your request.
  • Export your collection: You can export your sheet collection to a nice pdf which you can print out. You can export it to a csv file as well.

Connect with other members

  • Contact: Find contact information for each member on their user profile. You can change your contact information as well by editing your profile settings.
  • Friends: You can add each user to your friends list. This will be very convenient when you are looking for a sheet because you friends will be highlighted with the friends icon .
  • Find members: You can find members by their name or email address using the link 'find members' on your profile page.
  • IM: You may fill in the instant messengers you are using such as skype, gtalk, msn, ... which makes it easier to contact you.
  • Personal: You are able to tell other members what country you live in and specify the languages you speak.

If you don't have any file to trade, buy some sheet music first. The largest online sheet music stores are musicnotes.com and sheetmusicdirect.com. Once you got some new sheets, add them to your sheet collection and wait for others members to contact you to trade one of your sheets.

On PianoFiles, you can submit a request of the sheet you are looking for. Your requests will be displayed on your profile page, so other members can see see what you are looking for. This makes the trading easier.

Some tips:

  • Once you have a sheet you requested, you may transfer the request to a sheet by hitting the transfer icon.
  • After 90 days, the request wont be visible anymore to other members. This is to prevent that the requests list gets outdated. To make it visible again to other members, you have to hit the extend icon
  • You can submit up to 30 requests in total.

Well, you can't. You can only obtain sheets from other pianofiles users by contacting them via their profile page and ask them whether they want to trade a sheet against one of yours. Learn more about how to trade your own collection.

Go to the profile page of the user you want to add to your friends list and you will find a link just beneath is name and avatar: 'add to friends'.
You can search for friends by name or email by following the link 'find members' on your profile page.

  • original: the original sheet music. This can sometimes be hard to tell.
  • transcription: arranged by someone, either in another key or just trying to copy the original song. The sheet will usually list a credit like "Arranged by..." or "Transcribed by..."
  • other: maybe a piano solo arrangement
  • easy: an easy play sheet. This is usually indicated on the sheets.
  • book: instead of typing in all the titles, you can also use a book title.

In order to delete your account, go to your profile page and click the Edit your profile button.
At the bottom of the form, you will find the delete button.
