Artist bio

This is the soundtrack for the anime series Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, also known as BGC: 2040. The 24 episodes of BGC 2040, from which this music is captured, ran from 1998 to 1999. This album contains only the background music from the series, and does not include the theme song, or any of the many vocal songs from the series.

“Bubblegum Crisis” is a cyber-punk style anime from the early 1990’s based loosely on Philip K. Dick's and Ridley Scott's Blade Runner. Read more

The Anime Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 (A.K.A. BGC: 2040) is an alternate-universe spinoff of the original Bubblegum Crisis anime OVA series. The series has similar themes and many of the same characters, however ADV updated character designs and added new or re-worked storylines.

The company: AIC obtained the rights to the series when Artmic Stuios dissolved in November of 1997. The original Bubblegum Crisis did not sell very well during its initial release in Japan, however by sharp comparison the series did rather well in the US market. During the early 1990s Bubblegum Crisis was one of the earliest animes to be comercially subtitled and distributed. ADV Films, a US based anime-importing company funded the creation of BGC: 2040. The series ran a full season of 24 TV episodes as well as two additional OVAs (which were episodes 25 and 26 respectively.) However, unfortunately for fans of the original series singer/voice actress Oomori Kinuko [voice actress of Priss] and character designer Sonoda Kenichi - refused to participate. This was due to large personality conflicts with AIC staff, fueled by resentment for their past treatment in the original series.

In 2002, a direct sequel was announced: Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2041. A.D. Vision will produce it and is reported to be taking a greater role in its production, but no official announcements have been made since then.
